Mars is god of war, He is the son of Iuno and Iuppiter, husband of Bellona and the lover of Venus. Mars is the most prominent of the military gods that was worshipped by the Roman legions. The martial Romans considered Him second in importance only to Iuppiter. Neptunus (Neptune) is the Roman God of the sea and earthquakes and his name is derived from the Etruscan Nepthuns. Neptunalia, is his festival, celebrated in July. The God is associated with fresh water, as opposed to Oceanus, god of the world-ocean. Like Poseidon, Neptune is also worshipped by the Romans as a god of horses, under the name Neptune Equester, patron of horse-racing. The planet Neptune was named after the god because its deep blue gas clouds gave early astronomers the impression of great oceans. "The thing that stuck with me was how [Hercules] wrecked the walls of Troy with one stroke of his club. It was a nice contrast to the 10-year war that the Atreidai & Co. would later have to fight to sack the city..." Dienekes1 "Here was the Martian beast, the nurse of Roman dominion, Suckling with life-giving dew, that issued from udders distended, Children divinely begotten, who sprang from the loins of the War God; Stricken by lightning she toppled to earth, bearing with her the children; Torn from her station, she left the prints of her feet in descending." Cicero De Divination e 1.26
